Eurochestries International launches the 1st edition of the international 
online contest "Young classical music talents"

General contest rules

I / DATES:

 The contest will take place from 1st March to 31st May 2021.


II / PROCESS:

 The contest takes place in a single round, exclusively online, by sending a video link via the registration platform.


III / INSTRUMENTS:

The contest is open to the instruments of the symphony orchestra:

Violin / Viola / Cello / Double bass / Transverse Flute / Piccolo / Oboe / English Horn / Clarinet sib or la / Bassoon / Saxophone sib or mib / Horn / Trumpet sib or ut / Trombone / Bass Trombone / Tuba / Percussions* / Harp /

Classical singing (soloist).


*Percussions:

All candidates choose one of this 2 categories:

- Percussions: Candidates have to play a “head” work: snare drum or timbals;

and a “keyboard” work (your choice) (2 or 4 sticks from 12 to 15 years old; 4 sticks from 16 years old)

- Drums: Candidates have to play a snare drum study and drums work. 


IV / AGES AND CATEGORIES:

The contest is open to young people between 12 to 25 years old.

It is open to all nationalities.


 Candidates can register in the following three categories:

12 to 15 years old / 16 to 19 years old / 20 to 25 years old.

 

The age is the age as of May 31st, 2021 included.

The applicant will provide identification card with his date of birth.


V / PROGRAM:

The program is free, with a choice of two pieces of music of different styles and periods.

The total music time for the entire program is as follows:


Duration of the entire program (both pieces together)

  12 to 15 years old: 5 minutes maximum

 16 to 19 years old: 10 minutes maximum

   20 to 25 years old: 15 minutes maximum

 

Make sure that your program is of maximum duration: any program exceeding the time limit will be judged up to the maximum time limit requested.

 

 Accompaniment is left to the candidate's choice: pieces can be performed without accompaniment, or with piano, or with any ensemble or instrument.


Accompaniment from an audio recording (CD or software) is not accepted.

VI / JURY:

 The Jury will be made up of the specialists in the instrument, including an international renown specialist.

The number of jury members per discipline will be fixed according to the number of registrants.

The list of specialist jury members will be available on the Eurochestries website, on the competition page,

from April onwards.

The general jury will be chaired by Claude Révolte, coordinator. 


VII / REGISTRATION:

 A/ Registration will take place from March 1st to May 31st, 2021, with:

- The online registration form to be completed on the website,

by checking a box giving consent to broadcast the video on the Eurochestries networks.

- Sending the video link directly into the registration form.

- A copy of the candidate's passport or identity card.

- The following information: first name; surname; date of birth; nationality; address; postcode; city; country; conservatory; diploma obtained; experience, if any.

- Contact email and the telephone (only for contact between the competition organiser and the candidate).

- Payment of registration. Registration will only be validated when payment is made.

Deadline for registration: May 31st at 23:59 CET (Brussels time).

Payment of the registration fee will be made:

B / Registration fees for all disciplines:

The registration fee varies according to the geographical zone* of the candidate's place of residence. (see country table below).

Zone 1: 40 euros / Zone 2: 30 euros / Zone 3: 20 euros / Zone 4 : 10 euros.

 

The geographical zones were based on the 2018 Human Development Index of countries, as defined by the United Nations.


VIII / VIDEO INSTRUCTIONS:

 A horizontal fixed shot without editing and without cuts for the whole program (with both parts).

Present your name and surname at the beginning of the video.

 Save your video as "unlisted" on a YouTube, Dailymotion, or other server and copy the link in the online registration form.

This link must be accessed directly, without requesting for permission.

 

The video must be recorded specifically for this competition, between 1st March and 31st May 2021

IX / AWARDS:

1/ General rewards

In each discipline and level, the Jury could award to the candidate:

- a 1st prize with congratulations

- a 1st prize

- a 2nd prize

- or a 3rd Prize


1st prize with congratulations: between 9 and 10, out of 10

1st prize: between 8 and 8.9, out of 10

2nd prize: between 7 and 7.9, out of 10

3rd prize: between 6 and 6.9, out of 10

Participation: below 5.9, out of 10


In addition, it could award the following prizes:


2/ Special prices

Any age group and instrument.


A / "Grand Prize" Award:

Any age group and instrument.

These “Grand Prize” Award will obtain an invitation** to perform as a soloist at a closing concert of a Eurochestries festival (international youth orchestra festival), in France or abroad in 2022 (where the health situation allows it).

**A soloist piece of music performed with the festival's international youth orchestra. Transport to get there and accommodation from the festival site included. This invitation involves the presence of the winner for several days before the concert, to rehearse with the orchestra and integrate into the festival.


B / Special Jury Awards (5):

An endowment of 1000 euros divided as follows, any age group and instrument combined:

- one prize of 300 €

- one prize of 250 €

- one prize of 200 €

- one prize of 150 €

- one prize of 100 €


C / “Young Hope” Awards:

Any instrument group

Young people under 15 years old showing significant abilities, which the Eurochestries wish to support in their progress.

Its support will take the form of an invitation to a masterclass with an internationally renowned musician, or to a Eurochestries festival, or to a meeting with a youth orchestra, or another form of pedagogical and media support.


D / Internet Public Award:

Winners who have been awarded a 1st Prize with congratulations, or a “Grand Prize” Award, or a Special Jury award, or a "Young Hope" award will be able to compete for the Internet Public prize.

This Internet Public prize will be awarded, over a period of time chosen by the organisers, to the largest number of "likes" obtained on the YouTube channel Eurochestries International.

This prize will be honorary and will be the subject of a diploma mentioning "Public prize".


E / Special Jury Mention:

The jury may make a special mention which will be mentioned on the diploma.


F/ Other prices:

Other prices can be given according to partners.

We can yet announce: 

- A masterclass with the French trombonist Jacques Mauger

- A musical stay at the Camp musical St-Alexandre in Quebec (Canada) : www.campmusical.com

- A masterclass with the violinist Taiping Wang

- A musical stay at Gramado In Concert festival (Brazil)


3/ Promotion of the winners

All candidates who have obtained one 1st Prize with congratulations, or a “Grand Prize” Awards, or a Special Jury awards or a "Young Hope" awards:

- Will be highlighted on the Eurochestries’ website and social networks for one year.

- Will be able to participate in a Eurochestries festival of their choice in 2022 without paying the registration fee.

- Will be promoted within the Eurochestries network (to conductors, musicians, composers, etc.).


4 / Diploma

All participants will receive a diploma or certificate of participation in digital form.

X/ RESULTS:

- Results will be given in the end of June 2021.

- The Jury reserves the right not to award all the prizes.

- The Jury's decisions are final. 


XI/ MISCELLANEOUS:

- Image rights: The winning candidates allow their video to be broadcast on the Eurochestries website and social networks.

- Any communication with the members of the Jury during the competition period is forbidden and would lead to the disqualification of the candidate.

- The competition organisers will do their utmost to transmit pedagogical information given by the jury, without committing themselves to do so.

- The winners of a 1st Prize with congratulations, a “Grand Prize” Awards, a Special Jury Awards or a "Young Hope" Awards undertake to send the organisers their video in mp4 format within 15 days of the announcement of the results, so that it can be inserted on the YouTube channel Eurochestries International.

- Any candidate who does not comply with these rules will not be admitted to the competition.

- In case of litigation, the French version will prevail.
