Mathieu Rivest


A native of Beauport, Mathieu Rivest began studying piano in his hometown

to then continue his trumpet training at Cégep de Ste-Foy with

Marc Carmichael. He continued his studies at Laval University from where he obtained a

bachelor's degree (1999) as well as a master's degree (2002) in music education. Mathieu Rivest

has also participated in training courses in music education within

from various European musical academies.

It is with Chantal Masson-Bourque, Gilles Auger and Guy Lavigne that

Mathieu Rivest began his studies in conducting. Passionate about this new discipline,

he studies in orchestral and choral conducting at the Conservatory of Metz (France)

with the renowned professor Fernand Quattrochi. Subsequently, he participated in

conducting workshops abroad with great masters such as Pierre Cao, Hervé

Niquet, Loïc Pierre, Éric Bauer, Florent Stroesser and Yoshihisa Mathias Kinoshita. In

2004, he also took part in the orchestral conducting course organized by the "Sergiu

Celibidache stiftung ”with chef Konrad von Abel in Germany.

Active and committed musician, he is regularly invited as conductor and coach for

various groups and organizations including CAMMAC (Canadian Amateur Musicians

Amateur Musicians of Canada). Since 1993, he has been teaching at the Camp musical de Saint-

Alexandre de Kamouraska and since April 1998, he has been acting as general manager and

artistic. In 1998, he founded the Orchestra Camps there, where he continues to conduct music for harmony and symphony orchestras. He brilliantly carries out various artistic development projects within the Lower Laurentian community as well as with Camp musical St-Alexandre, which he promotes beyond Canada's borders.

In 2001, he founded the Arquemuse String Orchestra of Quebec. He has also conducted a chamber orchestra at the Faculty of Music at Laval University. In the fall of 2005, he also held the position of pedagogical director of the Rivière-du-

Wolf. Mathieu has accumulated extensive teaching experience in various institutions

from the Quebec City region. He now teaches music at Cégep de La Pocatière in addition to directing the activities of the Harmonie des Cascades de Beauport as musical director.

For many years, Mr. Rivest has been at the origin of several large-scale projects

as arranger (orchestration) and conductor. The documentary Symphony

Locass produced in 2006 by Vidéo Femmes and the National Film Office (ONF) in

testifies.

Finally, Mathieu Rivest was a two-time scholarship recipient from the Bas St-Laurent Fund

for arts and letters awarded by the Regional Conference of Elected, the Council of

the Culture of Bas-St-Laurent as well as the Conseil des arts et des lettres du Québec. He is Ambassador for the international movement Eurochestries and collaborates with dynamism. He was named Tourism Personality of Bas-St-Laurent at the Grands Prix du tourisme québécois.
